Overview
Ixinity is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to control and prevent bleeding in adults and children age 12 or older with hemophilia B. Ixinity can also be used for perioperative (before, during, and after surgery) care. The technical name of Ixinity is Coagulation factor IX (recombinant).

Ixinity is a clotting factor. Clotting factors work by supplying proteins missing in people with hemophilia.

How do I take it?
Prescribing information states that Ixinity is given as an intravenous injection.

Ixinity comes as a powder that must be reconstituted before injection.

Side effects
The FDA-approved label for Ixinity lists headaches as a common side effect.

Rare but serious side effects listed for Ixinity include thromboembolic events (dangerous blood clots), hypersensitivity reactions, and the development of inhibitors.
